BIRDING

Swaziland has a wealth of bird life, with the greatest concentration of species in the lowveld. A total of 497 species have been identified in Swaziland, and some of these extremely rare, such as the Blue Swallow or the Bald Ibis. Birds are best seen in the Nature Reserves and details of bird-life can be had by contacting the individual reserves.

Birding trips conducted by an experienced ornithologist can be booked through Phophonyane Lodge. Vincent Parker, the noted ornithologist, has produced a checklist of the birds of Swaziland, usually available at Book and Pen in The Mall, Mbabane.
